DAY 2 AM: The Holy Spirit and You in the Place of Prayer- Rev Mrs Mary Idowu

To experience effective and fruitful prayer, believers must move away from fleshly prayer habits and submit entirely to the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit.

1. Abandon Need Based, Emotional, and Religious Prayer

Prayer becomes fruitless and exhausting when driven by human intellect or fleshly motives rather than spiritual alignment. Believers must move past three fleshly prayer traps:

  • Need Based Prayer: Praying only when a crisis hits, panicking and trying to force God to respond immediately instead of praying out of an established relationship.
  • Emotional Based Prayer: Praying out of volatile feelings, accusing God when circumstances run down, and failing to touch heaven from the spirit.
  • Religious Based Prayer: Going to mountains or seas to perform external rituals that actually push God further away instead of drawing Him near.

“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” — John 4:24

2. Pray Mysteries in the Holy Ghost with Wisdom

Praying in tongues directly connects your human spirit, which is the candle of the Lord, to God’s frequency to download hidden divine secrets. However, believers must handle spiritual things with practical wisdom, recognizing that tongues are meant for communicating with God, not provoking or scaring people in natural situations.

“For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.” — 1 Corinthians 14:2

3. Obey Your Divine Teacher and Counselor

The Holy Spirit is sent as your teacher, counselor, helper, intercessor, advocate, strengthener, and standby. Consistently consulting Him before taking daily steps and quickly obeying His instructions brings divine counsel that averts disaster, protects your life, and leads to profit.

“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things…” — John 14:26a

4. Exercise Authority Over Territorial Forces

Territorial principalities and local strongmen cannot be overcome by human strength or financial resources alone. Believers must seek spiritual knowledge, discern their localities, and actively use the power of the Holy Spirit to pull down evil forces, enforce righteousness, and establish God’s will.

“When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.” — Isaiah 59:19b

5. Store Up the Word and Yield to Divine Interventions

The Holy Spirit requires the raw material of God’s Word inside your spirit to raise a standard and illuminate your darkness during times of crisis. Through personal discipline, honoring spiritual mentors, and prioritizing Scripture, you enable the Holy Spirit to do three key works: intercept, interrupt, and intervene in life’s battles.

“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.” — Proverbs 4:20

Call to Action

  • Yield Control in Prayer: Shift away from need based or emotional praying and prioritize building your prayer life by praying in the Holy Ghost.
  • Store Up the Word: Discipline yourself to study Scripture, listen to spiritual teachings, and fill your spirit with God’s Word so the Holy Spirit can raise a standard in times of trial.
  • Practice Prompt Obedience: Listen closely to the Holy Spirit’s guidance and instantly obey His warnings in your daily movements, family, and career.

Questions for Meditation and Pondering

  1. Have my recent prayers been driven by physical needs and emotional panics, or am I truly praying from my spirit through the Holy Ghost?
  2. Is there an area in my career, marriage, or location where I am acting independently instead of seeking the Holy Spirit’s counsel?
  3. Do I have enough of God’s Word stored within my spirit for the Holy Spirit to illuminate my darkness and raise a standard during a crisis?
