Doing Your Part (2)

Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:He is like a man w hich built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great. - Luke 6:47-49

If it is worse for those who hear the Word without obeying, how much more those that refuse to hear the word not to talk of doing? If your hearing alone does not bring you blessing, how much more the one that refused to even hear? If the destiny of the one who refused to do is as worse as what was recorded in the Bible, what would happen to the one who has no time to hear the word? God's word works for the doer; God commends the faith of those that obey the word. It is easy to hear the Word than to do. That is why most people do not care about doing because doing requires digging. Many are simply claiming blessing without doing what they are supposed to do.

Hearing the word alone does not build a house. Be actively involved in God's word before it can work for you; that is your foundation. Hearing about love, victory, faith, success does not bring blessing; it is practising and doing it. The Bible is the book of God's revelation; see yourself in the mirror of God's word. Many desire successes without struggling; not knowing that life involves inspiration and perspiration; life involves working. Thank God for prayers but prayers will not take the place of doing what you are supposed to do. Obedience is so important in our lives.

Looking at today’s passage, why is the wise builder toiling to dig deep? Why is he taking pains to dig instead of just building? It is because he was preparing himself for any eventuality which is often beyond anyone's control. No one can control the storm or wind of life but once you dig deep, no matter the trouble that comes, you will still be standing at the end of it all. Digging is difficult; it requires putting extra effort but without it, you have no future. But what does a fool do (See this in verse 49)?

To the world, the foolish builder is faster in building but to the future, he is foolish. Today, some believers are foolish Christians. They wonder why God’s word is not working for them. You have to walk the work by a corresponding action. Your action will either put you over or under. One wise man said that all you have in life are based on what you have said and believed in the past. So, we deserve what we have because it is the choice we make that determines the outcome we get.
