Walking By Faith To Receive Blessing

And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son. For thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth.’ So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for many days.  -1 Kings 17:13-15

There was a ranging famine in town. This was a fall out of the draught that had come upon that territory because of the pronouncement of Elijah. As the woman was gathering sticks to make a meal of the last stuff she had at home, a heavily clad man appeared on the scene and beckoned to her to give him some water. As she made the move to go get the water, the stranger called to her “Woman, get me a morsel to eat”. Many of us would have railed at the man but the widow of Zarephath did not rail at Elijah despite her predicament. She had great respect or humour for the things of God; no wonder God selected her for the miracle (Luke 4: 26).

Though this woman had never met Elijah, she knew how to handle the pressure of life. Even though she was a widow, she had great honour for God and his servants. She must have glanced from the physical appearance of Elijah that he was a prophet. How many will actually not be annoyed at the request of the so-called prophet with such great need in her life.

Undoubtedly, she must have been passing through a stressful time; she never allowed this to dictate her conduct even though she was near to death. No wonder God picked on her for the sensitive assignment of feeding his prophet. You know what? That assignment prevents this woman from WANT & DEATH. She was trusting to act on the word of the anointed though there was no visible sign of it been fulfilled.

Faith is an act. People of faith don’t misbehave in adverse situation. Isaiah 28:16. The mental torment of knowing her son would die before her eyes was enough to run her crazy. However, she was not rude. God kept her throughout the time of the drought.
