Power of the Gospel (2)

When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction.- Mark 5:27-30

The book of Mark tells us about a woman who had cancer; Dr Luke even called her case incurable. What would you do if doctors say they cannot help you? What would you do when doctors say nothing can be done about your case? What would you do when doctors say your womb cannot hold a baby? What would you do when doctors cannot diagnose the cause of your illness? What would you do when economy changes? What would you do to get the power to create wealth, blessing and grace to work for your advantage?

The power that was tapped for the invention of electricity has been in existence since creation, but the power was dormant until someone activated it. If you refuse to put on the electric switch on the electric box, there will not be power to illuminate us; however, this is not to say that power is not inside the wire or the switch box. But you must put on the power switch in order to activate the power. In the same vein, the power of God is everywhere but the power must be activated through our faith before it can work for us.

Beloved, until you do God's will, the power of God may not work for you. Therefore, you must allow the power to work for you by doing the will of God; allow the divine power work for your advantage. It is like a man who built his house on the rock; when the flood came, his house was strong to despite the flood. Sequel to this, just as the house with a solid foundation, your faith needs to grow strong so as to be able to withstand adversity. It can only grow strong when you activate God's presence, when you act on what you are hearing, when you believe God has the best in plan for you.

Verse 27 says 'when she had heard of Jesus'. Her measure of faith grew when she heard of Jesus. Romans 10:17 says: So, then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Jesus is the word of God in human form; He is the word that lives among us. After she heard of Jesus, she came in the press; the woman came in the press even among the multitude of people. Beloved, life itself involves pressure; you cannot afford to be timid.

But we must note that she did not just press amidst the multitude; she also had a specific desire, "If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole". This utterance prompted God’s power to work for her. Jesus is the powerhouse on earth; He is the second in the God head that came in the human form. His anointing was without measure; yet, as powerful as He was, nothing happened until the woman drew the power out of Him.

Imagine this anaemic, dying, weak, sick, and thin woman pressing hard towards Jesus for a miracle. Apart from the fact that this woman with the issue of blood had spent all she had consulting physicians; she had faced several embarrassing situations. In the day she lived, there were no female doctors, so she had to open herself up to different male doctors, disgraced and frustrated until she understood that she had a terminal disease.

When she came to the multitude, she was nobody; The Bible did not mention her name (although Bible scholars said her name was Veronica from the village of Caesarea). She was a nobody until she came to Jesus and touched His garment. When she touched the garment of Jesus, Jesus felt power flow out of Him. He said, 'somebody has touched me'.

Prayer: I pray that Christ Jesus would grant me according to the riches of His glory to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man and that Christ may dwell in my hearts by faith in Jesus Name.
