Daily Feast – July 16

Divine Intervention

So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” - Genesis 4:6-7

There was divine intervention in that bible verse. God knew that the envy and strife in Cain’s life would soon lead him to murder and God had to protect his righteous Abel from the bloodthirsty Cain. Here we see God personifying sin. Sin is a state of mind. There is a practice of sin. There is a stronghold of wickedness that is motivating men to sin.

God told Cain that he could rule over sin. The covering of his mercy was strong enough for Cain to rule over sin. He could master his wrath. He could refuse the domination of sin. He could refuse the temptation to murder. The scripture says in Romans 6:12-14 that Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

Some years ago, a successful lawyer came to me for prayer. He needed me to cast out the Spirit of anger. He was used to getting angry so quickly. He wanted me to do deliverance for him. Since he knew I have a healing anointing upon my life and ministry, he wanted me to use prayer to do what only the word can do. Jesus in his earthly ministry, referring to what was written about him read to the hearing of his people in Nazareth. (Read Luke 4:18-19). The easiest way to get people delivered is to allow the truth to set them free, instead of exalting prayer above the word. I told the young man that a wrathless God is an unholy God. If you can never be angry, then you can definitely never be holy. That is what you call ‘holy indignation’. It is meant to help you fight spiritual warfare. To preserve the blessings of God. When you see a father and mother who refuse to ever be angry with any of their children, then you have got a home where lawlessness and rebellion prevail. (Ephesians 4:26-29). The way not to sin when one is angry is not to give expression to words spoken in the heat of the circumstance because it will be unedifying and sinful.

Prayer: Father, I receive grace to walk in the spirit so that I do not fulfill the lust of the flesh in Jesus holy name. Amen.
