Daily Feast – July 18

A Spirit Filled Life

And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord - Ephesians 5:18-19

Have you ever come across people who are addicted to the spirit of alcohol? Alcohol breaks down the will of man to resist the devil and demonic forces. The greatest asset in a believer’s realm is his will. The devil wants to control it and God also wants to influence and clean it up with the washing by his words. Alcohol makes a man vulnerable to the assault of the devil as he breaks down his consciousness and will to resist the devil. The devil uses the absent-mindedness of an alcoholic to invade the territory of his mind.

Alcoholism is a perversion of the ability of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of joy, boldness and power. Alcohol also promises to give us the same, but it is a deception; it is ephemeral; it is sourced from evil influence. Its happiness is momentary, its boldness is false and its power is empty boast and mockery. When praying in the Holy Ghost (praying in other tongues) it builds you up but alcohol destroys the building of God which is your human spirit. Indeed, it is a counterfeit manifestation of the Holy Spirit.

The first major outpouring of the Holy Spirit was on the day of Pentecost. They were not only speaking in a new tongue, but they must have shown the same manifestation we see in a drunkard; excessive laughter, excessive talking, wobbling and falling as if overwhelmed by a power. Some mocked until Peter had to explain the type of influence they were having. Peter was not arguing with the critics but was explaining to them that they were actually drunk with Holy Ghost wine and not with natural wine. Hear wisdom talking: Proverbs 20:1 “Wine is a mocker; strong drink is raging; and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.”

Prayer: Lord, I surrender my entire being to the Holy Ghost in the name of Jesus. I refuse any form of satanic influence and control over my life.
