Daily Feast – June 24

Father, The Authority Figure

For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him. - Genesis 18: 19

Every man in the home setting is God’s representative. This high position was conferred on man because of the major role he plays in the vineyard.

Some fathers who do not understand this most times take the relationship as master and servant relationship, thereby possessing a tyrant spirit and then throw the family to hostility. Some families, because of what the father has made out of them do not know how to give love to others. Mismanaging leadership role in the home is the reason for juvenile delinquency. Some children who had gone wayward turned to be a nuisance because they do not get love at home. Love must be an integral part of your system as this becomes a way for stability and security in the process of life.

When we look at the principle of God for the home setting, we know that it is the man that receives specific instruction. He is the authority figure in the home. Fathers are not to be tyrants but educators, trainers, teachers, etc.

They are to create an atmosphere where every member of the family learn and pursue the common goal. The father possesses authority power while the woman carries influence power. The woman is not just an embodiment of the man, she reflects God’s beauty. God’s plan is that every man should cherish his spouse in the room of the calling.

Don’t treat her as a second-hand citizen. If you despise her you disown your soul (Gen. 2: 22-23). As a father, start to value her role in the home because you cannot be strong in every area. There is a vacuum in your calling that is designed for her; this understanding will help you press out wine from the vine. Don’t offend her true meek spirit; it is the grace of God. Your wife is like a wine that gladdens the heart. Don’t be like the foolish man who pulls down his previous pearls. Your wife is your pearl and she must be loved.

Prayer: Father, I choose to give my spouse and children the attention that they deserve in my family and the overall program of God for my life in Jesus’ name, Amen.
