Daily Feast – October 9

Understand the Father’s Love (1)

I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. - John 17:20-23

Some have been raised by fathers who have betrayed them and so, such people do not realize the father's love. When you understand love, you will realize that love conquers. The world today has polluted the word ‘Love’ to mean different things; what many call Love is nothing but lust and selfishness. However, God does not just love us; God is Love Himself.

From our Bible text today, we see the story that shows the relationship of Jesus with a family in Bethany. Martha was the eldest in the home; Mary was the younger sister while Lazarus was their brother. Lazarus was sick, and his sisters sent emissaries to Jesus. As soon as the emissaries embarked on the 18 miles journey, Lazarus died; but there was no way the emissaries would know that Lazarus had died. But Jesus knew Lazarus was gone physically. So, the emissaries brought a report to Jesus that someone He loved was sick.

Jesus, who was the beginning of all things, came in human flesh to save humanity from eternal damnation. In the humanity of Jesus, he grew up like any other person. He had friends who were close to Him, but His friends also knew He carried ultimate power. Martha and Mary set their love upon Jesus because they understood He was the Saviour of the world, the Redeemer of humanity. The two sisters sent for Jesus because they had an existing relationship. In your life also, you will realize that you will enjoy God more if you relate well with Him.

Many people in the world look for solutions when they are in trouble, but the irony is that the reason why they are helpless in times of difficulty and trouble is that they did not develop relationship ahead of trouble. Though there are troubles on earth, God does not want us to know Him like the Fire brigade men that Wait for fire outbreak before they set out. God wants you to know Him ahead of trouble. Martha, Mary, and Lazarus had a relationship With Jesus; so, when they had trouble, they knew where to go. The essence of knowing God is not to wait until you have a problem before you pray.

Prayer: Father, I thank you for my right standing with you and so because I am God’s righteousness in Christ, I stand before the Father’s presence without condemnation. It is this righteousness that makes my fellowship with the Father, the Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit more meaningful and fruitful. Help me Oh Lord to cultivate a fruitful fellowship in my relationship with you.
