DAY 4 AM: The Holy Spirit and You in the Place of Prayer (II) – Rev Mrs Mary Idowu

Supernatural prayer is praying the way God prays, aligning fully with His heart through Bible-based intercession empowered by the Holy Spirit.

1. Understanding Praying in the Spirit

Supernatural praying consists of two core dimensions: praying in the spirit using a known language and praying in tongues (1 Corinthians 14:14–15). Praying in the spirit in a known language occurs when the Holy Spirit inspires, prompts, and motivates you to pray Bible-based words rather than human ideas or emotional requests. When your prayers are rooted in the word of God, fear is eliminated, and God guarantees an answer because you are praying according to His will.

2. Safeguarding the Next Generation Through Intercession

God is seeking strong intercessors to destroy the works of the devil and protect the upcoming generation from spiritual territorial traps. Young people may walk uprightly at home or in church, but evil influences wait to lure them the moment they leave parental custody. Parents must not sleep off in the spirit, but must continuously intercede to keep their children out of the hands of the enemy.

3. Discerning the Four Moves of the Holy Spirit

When the Holy Spirit initiates supernatural prayer, He guides believers through four distinct manifestations:

  • A Sudden Burden: A specific person, nation, or situation heavily consumes your mind during routine daily activities.
  • A Shift in Tone or Intensity: Prayer starts gently, but a sudden rush of spiritual energy causes an intense, fervent surge in your voice and tongues.
  • A Transition to Tongues: The Holy Spirit bypasses intellectual thoughts and shifts your speech from a known language into tongues to pray out perfect mysteries.
  • An Inner Prompting: A gentle, quiet whisper or internal pressure inspires specific direction, requiring spiritual sensitivity rather than a busy mind.

4. Speaking Mysteries Through Tongues

Praying in tongues is direct communication with God where your spirit prays unknown mysteries while the mind remains unfruitful (1 Corinthians 14:2). Your mouth acts as the physical outlet for your spirit, and keeping quiet when the Spirit prompts you blocks the divine flow necessary to defeat the enemy. Using tongues merely to cover up a weak prayer life is ineffective; believers must actively respond to divine signals with watchfulness and spiritual excitement.

Call to Action

  • Base Prayers on Scripture: Stop praying out of human intellect or emotion; anchor every prayer point firmly on specific Bible promises.
  • Cultivate Spiritual Sensitivity: Stay alert to the gentle promptings, sudden burdens, and quiet whispers of the Holy Spirit throughout your daily routine.
  • Arise in Intercession: Stand as a committed intercessor for your family, children, and the church to break every chain of darkness and prevent spiritual casualties.

Questions for Meditation and Pondering

  1. Am I praying primarily from my human intellect and needs, or am I allowing the Holy Spirit to inspire Bible-based prayers through me?
  2. How sensitive am I to the sudden burdens and gentle promptings of the Holy Spirit during my daily routine?
  3. Am I actively interceding to protect my children and the next generation from the subtle traps of the enemy outside the church environment?
