Divine favour is a supernatural force that gives divine advantage, causing doors to open, opportunities to become available and breakthroughs to take place. It begins with God and must be received by faith. Mary found favour with God and responded, “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.” — Luke 1:38 (KJV). Believers must therefore remain receptive to what God ministers to them and receive it by faith.
Key Principles of Divine Favour
1. Grace and Mercy as Two Sides of Favour
When God’s favour is at work, grace and mercy work together. Grace and mercy are two sides of the same coin, and the coin is called favour. Grace is the blessing God gives on the basis of the sacrifice of Jesus. At the throne of grace, believers can boldly obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
2. Favour Gives Divine Speed
Divine favour brings supernatural speed. In John 6:16–21, the disciples willingly received Jesus into the ship, and “immediately the ship was at the land whither they went.” Favour can break the barriers of time and bring supernatural acceleration to situations that have previously been characterised by struggle and delay.
3. Seek God First and Walk in Divine Alignment
Matthew 6:33 teaches believers to “seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness”. The morning is the gateway to the day; therefore, beginning each day with God through prayer and His Word brings divine alignment. Giving God priority creates a consciousness of His presence and positions believers to be led by Him throughout the day.
“Don’t grab your phone, go to the throne.”
4. Speak into Your Day and Take Action
Believers should speak into their day, declaring what they desire to see in accordance with God’s Word. These declarations should be followed by corresponding actions. Diligence, proper use of time and practical steps towards God-given assignments are essential. Believers should take steps that align with their declarations and refuse to procrastinate.
5. Favour Produces Productivity and Divine Facilitation
Divine favour empowers believers to overcome procrastination, become productive and fulfil God-given assignments. What has remained undone for years can be accomplished with supernatural speed through God’s favour. Favour does not encourage inactivity; rather, it facilitates diligent effort and enables believers to make progress.
“Labour is good, but favour is better.”
Peter and the other fishermen had toiled without results, but at the word of Jesus, their situation changed from scarcity to surplus. Divine favour brings divine facilitation, replaces fruitless toil and enables believers to accomplish what God has placed in their hearts.
