DAY 6 PM: Spiritual Hunger & Thirst As A Pathway to Divine Favour – Rev John Idowu

Spiritual hunger and thirst after righteousness serve as the ultimate pathway to divine favor and bringing believers into high responsibility, total liberty, and effortless victory.

1. Hardship as a Maturity Pathway: Conviction over Comfort
The best of God’s people learn through the hard things of life. Life is lived forward, and great vision is birthed in atmospheres of conviction and sacrifice rather than ease and convenience. True liberty comes with higher spiritual responsibility, as power and honor naturally attract envy and jealousy from the world.

Blessed and enviably happy with the happiness produced by the experience of God’s favor… are those who mourn for they shall be comforted.”

— Matthew 5:4 (AMP)

2. Spiritual Hunger: The Essential Precondition for Filling
Spiritual hunger and thirst after righteousness are the true keys to accessing an umbrella of divine favor. It is not our personal performance or human striving, but our position in Christ and our deep affection for Him that satisfies us with His righteousness and guarantees complete immunity over every weapon formed against us.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”

— Matthew 5:6

No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.”

— Isaiah 54:17

3. Zacchaeus and Phinehas: The Power of Wholehearted Commitment
God bypasses thousands to locate a hungry, committed heart that genuinely seeks Him. Zacchaeus climbed a sycamore tree out of sheer desperation and love, causing Jesus to invite Himself into his home and bring immediate salvation. Similarly, Phinehas displayed holy zeal for God’s honour during a time of public rebellion, which instantly stopped a deadly plague and secured an everlasting covenant of peace for his generation.

And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchæus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.”

— Luke 19:5

“Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them… Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:”

— Numbers 25:11–12

Call to Action

  • Cleanse your life of double living, hypocrisy, and spiritual carelessness, choosing to serve God out of pure love rather than selfish gain.
  • Increase your level of wholehearted commitment to the Lord, actively seeking His heart and presence above mere physical gifts.
  • Stand firm in your identity as the righteousness of God in Christ, boldly rejecting the condemnation and accusations of the enemy.

Questions for Meditation and Pondering

  1. Is my current walk with God driven by a genuine hunger for His presence, or am I merely seeking Him for what He can give me?
  2. In what areas of my daily life am I compromising my spiritual standards instead of demonstrating true zeal for God’s honor?
  3. How can I shift from a religious mindset of legalistic performance into resting in my true identity as the righteousness of God?
